The Rusty Anchor welcomes you as an ideal base. It is purpose-built backpackers, upgraded in 2006 to a very high standard. Many guests comment that it is the cleanest and most spacious backpackers they have encountered and we are well situated opposite the Whatuwhiwhi shopping centre (takeaway/fish and chip shop, Laundromat, bar, liquor outlet, dairy and service station).
The Karikari Peninsula forms the western coast of Doubtless Bay located half way between 90 Mile Beach and the Bay of Islands in the Far North of New Zealand. It's spectacular array of beaches and beautiful clear waters create the perfect location for a whole range of water based activities including kite surfing, diving, surfing, paddle boarding, fishing charters, sailing, kayaking and more. So – grab some mates, hitch the boat and get up here!
Most rooms at the Rusty Anchor have direct deck access and those on the upper level are provided with a comfortable lounge area and sea views. Rooms comprise of mainly shared accommodation sleeping up to four or six guests per room in bunk-beds. We also have double rooms with a queen size bed or double bunk-bed. In total the Rusty Anchor caters for 21 in-house guests. We can also provide up to 15 sheltered tent sites and 8 powered van sites, with access to the backpacker kitchen and bathroom facilities.

A private court-yard enables guests to relax and socialise around the six tables with umbrellas and free use of the BBQs. In conjunction with Karikari Storage we can also offer you free lock-up for your boat and dive gear, wash down & smoker use while you stay with us. We also have snorkel equipment and mountain bikes for hire. Attached to the backpackers is an information centre providing internet access and bookings for many of the local activities, and tours to Cape Reinga (or nip up there yourselves for a look off the end!) |
