About Paul Morris Shark Attack

After suffering from a spinal injury in 1995 I took up the sport of kayaking that led to modifying my kite longline rig to use out of my yak. This was a very productive method of fishing that caught on quickly with other yak fishermen. After my shark encounter in 2005 I was left a nervous wreck for some time playing out parts in documentaries as I searched for answers and an understanding about the Great White Shark. This eventually got me into diving with the help of Phil Keoghan. From here my son and I started the 1st Dive Planet website that has evolved over time with the Snelgrove family to become what it is today. Our aim is to be the Dive Portal for New Zealand as we promote our beautiful country to the world.

Part of the Dive Planet Site is dedicated to finding more information about the Great White shark as I search for answers and work in with scientific researchers like Clinton Duffy and the Fox foundation in Australia. My aim is to someday be able to tag and study the movements of our own Great White sharks as a Dive Planet project.

20/20 White Fright Documentary

Filming with Peter Cronshaw of 20/20 helped me get out my feelings about my experience and to advise others how we can make ourselves less attractive to sharks when we are out there in their environment.
