About Project Shark Fin NZ |
| Here at Dive Planet we are very supportive of Project Aware and the great work that they do, and have an association through Coastal Aware Projects, i.e. monthly coastal clean ups. The time has come where we believe that awareness of shark finning and shark fin products must be openly publicised. |

About Project Shark Fin NZ
|
WHAT IS SHARK FINNING? |
|
Shark finning is a process whereby sharks are caught and their dorsal, pectoral, and tail fins are cut off. In most cases the shark is returned to the sea while still alive and endures a slow death of up to 6 days. 173 million sharks per year are processed in this way, mainly for the Asian markets insatiable appetite for shark fin soup.

Importance of Sharks |
|
Whenever the topic of sharks is discussed it polarises people and evokes many different emotions, from a love and respect to an abject fear and loathing. Whatever your viewpoint Dive Planets purpose is to encourage people to consider the vital role they play and to understand that no species in today's world should suffer the plight of extinction. |

OUR PART TO PLAY |
|
Scuba Divers have a first hand perspective of the beauty and majesty of our aquatic environment. The more environmentally aware of us realise that the human race plays a potentially negative and influential part in the delicate balance of the underwater ecosystem. At Dive Planet we are environmental advocates and believe that divers and the general public must take an active role in underwater conservation, for our children and future generations. |
DONATION |
| By donating to Project Shark Fin NZ, Dive Planet you will be supporting a company that is dedicated to the preservation and conservation of sharks and promoting the awareness of the barbaric practises in use today. The collating of information related to the location and distances travelled by certain species, via the use of satellite tracking devices will also be helpful in our quest for the preservation of these majestic creatures. |

You may be thinking that Shark Finning in New Zealand does not happen, well I am sorry to have to say this but the Shark Finning Industry is booming and we have to Take Action and put this brutal and needless slaughter of Sharks to an end. This video opposite was filmed in the Marlborough Sounds in 2007 and the problem is escalating.
