Boating Safety Tips

1: Check the boat, engine and equipment before leaving.

2: Check the weather forecast and tides before leaving.

3: Tell someone where you're going and when you'll return.

4: Alcohol and boating do not mix.

5: Never overload the boat.

6: Take a proper lifejacket for each person on board; and wear them.

7: Have aboard: Anchor, bailer, spare fuel, torch, warm gear.

8: Guard against fire.

9: Know the: Collision Prevention Rule, Navigation Safety Rule, local bylaws.

10: Take at least two means of communication that work even when wet: VHF Radio, Flares, EPIRB as well as a cell phone in a plastic bag.
