Hyperbaric Chambers and Medical

New Zealand has three hyperbaric chamber units for diver emergencies. Two of these are based in Auckland and the third in Canterbury.

Hyperbaric Treatment is the primary treatment modality of diving incidents such as Decompression Sickness and Arterial Gas Embolisms.

Hyperbaric medicine is not only used for a divers recovery from DCI, as the chambers medical advantages help with the recovery of patients suffering from a broad spectrum of illnesses. Including aiding in the healing of wounds from a result of accident or surgery is another common practice.

Chamber Diving NZ

Chamber diving gives divers the opportunity to experience the effects of nitrogen narcosis in a safe and controlled environment.

I have participated in one of these logged controlled dives and I would personally highly recommend this type of dive to all divers. Showing us the effects of nitrogen narcosis and how it affects the way we think and make decisions is eye-opening.

As well as the serious side there is also the humourous side to chamber diving, watching the reactions and problem solving of other divers with you.
