Dive Air Bubble Cave,These are really cool places to visit in the magical Poor Knight islands. Here as you come up into this enclosure simply release some air from your regulator to replenish what is there. Coming up for a chat with your dive buddy and others on the larger air bubbles is pretty cool considering the depth you are at.
The taste of the air can at times be quite disgusting but still well worth the adventure of experiencing the moment. Within this naturally formed space the topside is often yellow looking volcanic rock.
These air bubbles thought to have been created, thousands of years ago either by gas bubbles in the cooling lava as it met the water. Other possibilities is that these caves were once above the water line and as the tidal currents and land mass shifted got air trapped in these compartments.
Great photography opportunities exist here taking shots of the mirror images you can get from the water level within the bubble. Anemones and demoiselles are a very common sight upon the approach to this cave.
