“Looking for a photographers paradise??well here you have found it. As The Gardens here at the Poor Knights would have to be one of the most densely populated aquatic habitats in the world.
This is an awe inspiring location that will have you in it's grips due to the unknowing of what will be seen first. It may be a pod of the incredible Orcas as they feast on stingrays or the passing of a thresher shark seeking out its prey. Whatever comes into vision first you will be overjoyed that this was a destination on your itinerary.
Adventuring at the top section first here we have Mary's wall with a sheer underwater cliff meeting the sand at 27 meters then rising to an undercut at 5 meters. This is home to lots of pink Mao-mao as well as the copper moki on occasions. This fantastic wall is encrusted with gorgonian fans, sponges and sometimes even the pacific winged oysters.
Visiting the Big Eye Cave here can be truly exceptional in the right conditions. For more info of the cave choose the link provided on the Poor Knights map or here below.
Overall the Gardens are one of the best locations that are on offer making it of little wonder why Jacques Cousteau classed the Knights as one of the ten best dive locations the world.
