The Shaft Cave dive site is named accordingly as this shaft traverses the entire width of Aorangi Island. Looking at the shaft from the eastern side it is heavily exposed to the easterly quarter as far as weather goes. This shaft like Pack point gets nailed by the storms that ravage this section of coastline.
This is a deep cave that shallows at South harbour to a depth of around 20 odd metres. Inside the Shaft cave it is littered with bright coloured sponges and other marine life that you would expect to find in the diversity of the varying depths of this shaft. Boulders litter the floor like marbles covered in encrusted life that supports a range of other species within its bounds. Anchoring here is a no go due to the depth of this area and this is strictly a dive only for advanced divers.
Pack Point is like most of the other points that you would expect to find at the Poor Knights as this point is heavily exposed to weather from the easterly quarter. Care should be taken diving around this and other points of exposed coastline.
