Dive Mikhail Lermontov is a very unique dive as she is one of the very few wrecks that offer such a diverse array of options. Whether you are an advanced open water diver or the serious tech diver type, the Lermontov is sure to please.
When the Lermontov struck the reef on her port side it tore a large gash mortally damaging her that forced the only option of limping to Port Gore in the sounds where she subsequently met her final resting place.
Now lying fully intact on her starboard side in 30-metres of water this is a unique and fantastic adventure dive that awaits you. Exploring the exterior of this once grand ship, she has taken on a new lease of life harbouring the magnificent beauty of encrusted life that is breathtaking.
For the more serious qualified penetration divers areas like the bridge, funnel and pool offer easy accessibility. These areas should really only be penetrated with an experienced guide to further ensure safety for all concerned. The visibility within the wreck is around 12 metres whereas the exterior is a mere 5 metres at times. Within her shell she still holds untold stories of the past and present with artefacts pilled in every nook and cranny.
Other areas like the propeller section are also very interesting places to explore and well worth the venture to this location. Abundant amounts of species that are seen in and around her make for spectacular viewing.
