Seafire Wreck Bay of Plenty

Seafire Sinking Whale Island

Divers you now have a new wreck that is almost ready for you to go and explore off Whale Island in the Bay of Plenty, called the Seafire. The Seafire is a 44 metre fishing boat that has now been laid to rest in 32 metres of water off Whale Island in the sunny Bay of Plenty. The Seafire is the newest addition to our list of shipwrecks around New Zealand after the sinking of the KMNZS Canterbury in Deepwater Cove late 2007.

Unlike the Canterbury wreck the Seafire was scuttled avoiding the use of explosives that kept a large crowd in awe for over 2 hours as she slowly descended below the waterline. Once she started to list to starboard she rapidly gained momentum before slipping beneath the waves.

The Seafire wreck will not be able to de dived upon for a wee while yet as due to the Trust ensuring she has bedded herself in, forming a secure foundation. Once this vessel is ready to be dived upon you will have to get in quick, to be one of the first to explore the magnificent dive that can be had on her.
