Dive Tug Taioma

About the Dive Site - About the Tug Taioma

The Taioma is sitting on a flat sandy bottom at 27m and is a fantastic dive for all experience levels. She is still upright and largely intact. There are a couple of easy swim-through from one side to another of the hull. The wheel still remains in the wheelhouse, and it is also possible to swim down the funnel and into the engine room for more experienced divers.

This wreck as been visited by many New Zealanders as well as folk from all over the world taking in the natural beauty that is forming on her shell like a living monument harbouring a new lease of life.

Marine Life

Snapper, Terakihi, Blue Mao-mao, Goatfish, and blue cod as well as octopus can be seen here. On the sand around the base, anemones blanket the hull. Small crayfish lurk in the boiler, and beautiful tiger shells and clown Nudibranchs can often be found amongst the encrusting life.

Dive Specifications

The main deck of the Taioma is around 22m down with the base of the wreck at 27m and the funnel at 17m. There is only one ascent/descent line, which leads down to the stern.
